                                 MIXED MEDIA MONDAY'S LAUNCHES!
Attention Mixed Media Artists! We are "test driving" a new activity designed especially for you. Most artists collect "stuff", i.e. fodder, trinkets, doo-dads...You are encouraged to gather up a small box of "shareables" and come on down to the art school on Monday, December 8th, 2014. From 10:00 a.m. to noon artists can swap and exchange items with each other, talk about their projects,  work and share information. We are asking that each participating artist leave a little something for the new Paper and Mixed Media Store, Ann's Cache D'Art. That way we can keep our inventory fresh. Then stay for a pot luck lunch from noon-1:00 p.m. From 1-3 p.m. we will offer an open work session facilitated by Mixed Media artist and instructor Pam Erickson.
So bring something to swap, leave a little something for the school, share lunch and take the facilitated session for only $10 or only do one activity or all three, it's up to you! Call us with questions or details. Looking forward to hosting all of you! Pacific NorthWest Art School, 15 N W Birch Street, Coupeville 306 678 3396.

Discovering the Dramatic Landscape in Charcoal
Katherine Nelson, Instructor
September 14-18, 2015 (9am-4pm)
Tuition:  $625

Learn to effectively convey the dramatic black and white landscape with use of balanced composition, line, rhythm, value, and texture in charcoal.
The versatile charcoal medium and its potential for creating drama in the everyday landscape is our focus for this five day workshop in drawing. Your compositions will resonate with new meaning by eliminating color and using several key principles and elements of design to further exaggerate your landscape subject.  Charcoal offers enormous creative potential in layered texture, light, and shadow. We will concentrate on dramatic composition through the use directional rhythmic line, range of value, shape, and texture.  Students will create numerous drawings using value scale and high contrast, observed and inventive textures, and will build layers of charcoal through additive and subtractive drawing techniques.  Expect to create both short study sketches and work toward a finished charcoal drawing with strong light direction and texture.  Throughout our workshop we will create images from several sources including life observation, your own landscape photos, and memory.
